DESCRIPTION
This ‘clock’ is a design statement against the domination and experience of time in western lifestyle. The clock is released from the wall and brought back to its ‘original’ state: an artefact; a beautiful object which should be maintained and taken care of.
Tea-Time is a timepiece where time itself is inessential. People should be more aware that time is precious so they can better enjoy what’s left. With Tea-Time people can take time for themselves and forget their ‘daily routine’ for a moment with a nice cup of tea.

THE EVOLUTION OF TIME

This project started with the Evolutionary Product Development theory of professor Arthur Eger (University of Twente). The EPD theory describes six phases in product design: performance, optimisation, detailing, segmentation, individualisation and awareness. After the analysis I came to the conclusion that the clock is almost in the final product stage. The next evolutionary step would be to move the clock into the awareness category. Therefore Tea-Time is a conscious product which makes people more aware of time and the way they spend it. The idea of the object dates back to the time when the clock was still an artefact, but the concept makes the product contemporary. The natural look & feel enhances the 'awareness'.
